WOW!

Not that any of my readers care, but the United States just pulled off there biggest win ever, in knocking off #1 ranked Spain today 2-0. This is basically on par with the Hockey teams victory over the soviets nearly 30 years ago. The Americans lost one of there best players to a red card with five minutes left to go in regulation, so they will be short handed in the Championship game against, Brazil, most likely. Still this is the type of signature win that could propel the US to something big in the world cup. It may put soccer on the map in the US finally. Like I said I doubt many of you care, but it is a great game, and the Americans just pulled off a once in a lifetime shocker.

Ftown, this is great but soccer players are a bunch of wussies. I realize that some of this is acting (like flopping in hoops) but still it gets a bit ridiculous. Personally I hope that men's soccer never gets on the map in the USA. I actually don't think it ever will, due to the fact that kids growing up in the US know that they can make a lot more money playing football. Had the guys currently playing d back and receiver in the NFL grown up playing soccer rather than football, the US would be a world power in soccer.

Gruny,

You are probably right, and if the American team had coach Hahn running the show they probably would be the best team in the world...

All they really need is to park Bobby Shot's dad bus outside the stadium they are playing and let Harper on the roof with his shirt off waiving it like a helicopter like the 1999 SP Highlight video.

I think alot of uneducated sports casters are calling this win incredibly important are overblowing it. Yes Spain was undefeated in something like 30+ games, and yes, it is the first final of FIFA tournement that the US has ever been in, but we beat an almost unstoppable Brazil team in either 96 or 98, 1-0.

And nowadays, most of the US team plays overseas in European leagues, so its not like we are fielding a bunch of slouches. As in any sport, the old adage works, "Any Given Sunday".

Also, right now we are currently ranked #14 overall, but at one point 3-4 years ago we were as high as #6.
