Kapler who?

Sorry Gabers, but you have been replaced. Not in my heart (no one can ever take that away from us) but you are no longer my Crewers man crush. Yup that is right Casey Mcgehee you have a new gentleman caller and his name is C-Weed. That could be the single gayest thing I have ever wrote. I digress. When CM came onto the scene in spring training I was skeptical as most. Wasn't sure what to think of this dude who came from the Cubs minor league system. But with every at bat and highlight reel play from the all over the infield I started to pay attention. When the Crew decided to hold onto him coming into the regular season. I was pretty stoked about it, he was on fence to make the starting line up. But his hot ass bat and above average defense got him the nod.
It is tough for guys who are used to playing every day to come in off the bench and make an impact hence Gamel Toe, Franky "Skat" Cat-ta-la-notta and Jody Gayroots. But KC McGay-hee has taken that old cliche of "make the most of your every oppertunity " and made sweet love to it. He is above my expectations and In my opinion should be an everyday player. I am not sure where you stick him. With Craiggers playing way above average and at 2nd and 3rd. Gamel needs to play everyday at 3rd so he can get his reps and become a dominating player we all know he can be. It would be easy to think you could platoon the 3 of them except Gamel is soley on the hot corner. But than I feel like you are defeating the purpose of getting these guys to play as much as possible. We are back to where we are now. I feel like KC is hurting Gamels opportunities to become that everyday 3rd baseman. KC and CC are too consistant at this point not to have them in the lineup every day and Gamel doesnt have the trust from Macha for some reason. I really feel like it comes down to KC and CC being way too productive at this point. The one thing Gamel has going for him is CC brittle ass knees and Hall not doing anything. So that should keep him up for now. With that said, is it crazy to think you send Gamel back the AAA so he can get his everyday work or do you leave him up to play twice a week getting his major league experience. It is a really titty twister of predicament, one of which I didnt think we would have after losing Weeks to the DL. Now we have too many middle infielders, that is actually a pretty nice titty twister to recieve.
Anyway I kinda got off the subject but I absolutley love Mcgehee and what he has been able to do. Guys who are suppose to spend their careers in the minors. Come up and take a team like the brewers, who have some of the best prospect talent and major league talent in the league and really make an impact. Is really awesome. I have found my new Gabe Kapler ladies and gentleman, a role I never thought could be replaced. Keep it up McGehee keep it up!

ps. did I mention he jerked off a granny last night after nearly losing the game for the crew by dropping a routine flyball at 3rd, that he looked into the glove the whole way. OMG LOL. I spilled a whole 1.75 of whisky that I was drinking while laying on the couch watching the game. They need to make a wide mouth bottle for whisky, Im just saying.

Well C$$$ as long as KC is hot I agree with you Gamel should go down and get consistent at bats. He is doing us no good coming off the bench and getting two starts a week. A guy like Adam Heether or Hernan Iberrean could be called up to take the utility role that KC once had. I will say this beware of the small sample, the more KC plays the more he will get exposed, but he has been a breath of fresh air, and has made the Weeks loss very minimal at this point.

I dont want Gamel to go down, but I dont see any other option, we will see what happens.
I too try not to base opinions off of small samples. I think CM is far from the small sample. He has proven himself day in and day out. He has 41 games under his belt, 110 AB's 5 HR(all in June), 21 RBI .400 OBP and a .564 SLG. In June alone he is hitting .389 BA with a .708 SLG. This guy is the shit and I think he deserves you buying me his jersey.

I guess I would say I am an as avid of a Brewer fan as just about anyone. But I would not say I am as well versed in the strategic decision making teams make through out the a year and the rationale for them. I am pretty basic and fall under the "put the team on the field that gives you the best chance to win" phylosophy. With that said I don't know how anyone right now could not say having CC and CM occupying 2nd and 3rd doesnt give the brewers the best chance to win. I don't get much into the, "well we need to give the guy his reps so he knows what its like to play ball at the major league level" kind of stuff. So I guess I don't really know or have the time to care about what happens to Gamel in the short term but all I know is I cringe every time he is required to field the ball at 3rd.

Well I think we can all agree McGhehee isnt going to be the third baseman of the future or I would be completely suprised if he was. He is a great story, and a great find by Melvin, but he is what he is a decent utility man who has been hot. 100 PA's is still a small sample, that is 1/6 of a full year. Hell Bill Hall did it for a couple of years, and look at him now. Prust, Gamel has a ceiling much higher than McGhahee, so he needs to be playing somewhere. I agree right now he doesnt give us the best chance to win so he should be sent down. You just cannot waist your players service time by sitting on the bench. We will regret it in 4 years when dont have another year of Gamel. Small market clubs need there cheap young players to stay competitive, and we need to continue to have that pipleline from the minors to the bigs. That is why you are going to see Mat Gamel get all the oppurtunities in the world to succeed at 3rd base. Though McGhahee is cheap as well, so he should be getting the ABs while he is hot. Send Gamel down for two months let him get his confidence going and bring him back up. I seriously doubt we will see this torrid pace from Counsel and McGhahee the rest of the year.

Correct, he is a utility guy who is hot right now. Keep riding him while he has the hot hand, but I expect he'll be back on the bench and doing spot duty later this season. With Weeks out, Hall being Hall, and Gamel being young, it's pretty nice to have a guy like McGeehee who can play 2nd, 3rd, or even give JJ a day off at short. The fact that he's has having a hot streak and contributing to wins on offense is a major bonus, but it won't last forever.

Regarding Gamel, I think the error stat is overblown. He obviously has defensive talent, because he's made some good plays and has a live arm. He's just not consistent. He's 23 years old.

Granted, he has to improve because that's his job. but how many errors really kill you, in comparison to having a bad bat in the line-up (Hall)? Sometimes, you have an error that puts a guy on first and then he gets doubled off. Doesn't even extend the inning. Sometimes you have an error that extends the inning, but the third out comes without further damage. Sometimes a run scores because of an error, and you win the game anyway, or you lost by 6 runs anyway. It is the rare error that costs you runs and costs you the game. It is much more rare than the 2 RBI double that wins you a game.

There is often a dozen or more errors in a day in MLB. You might see a couple a day that make the highlight reel because it affected a game - or because they are showing how the pitcher got out of a ridiculous jam with no damage. You might see a couple a week in MLB that affect the outcome of a game.

Now, you can't have a major liability at 2nd or short messing up game-saving double plays with runners on base. At 3rd, meh, I'll take 2 errors a week and a .300 average over 0 errors and a .220 average - everytime.

I would expect that McGeehee will have to hit a slump in the next week or two. At that point, he'll be a valuable utility guy again. Gamel will be getting most of the starts at 3rd and Bill Hall will be playing once in a while against left handed pitching and coming in late in games with a lead for a defensive boost.

TK,

I couldnt agree more, errors and defense can often be overrated. The old adage the bat will play, is usually true. Gamel has the most upside with his bat and I dont think anyone would argue, but he needs consistent playing time for him to reach that potential. That is why I like Gamel playing 3rd base everyday and Counsell and McGhehee splitting the time at 2nd. I dont have a problem with Gamel sitting 1 or 2 days a week, but right now he is sitting about 4 days a week, and I think that can hurt development. I can live with his glove, and it has been better than advertised in my opininon. The most interesting part though is how service time works in MLB. Players that accumalate service time two quickly can fall under the super 2 status which gets them to there arby years one year earlier. This is something the Brewers should try to avoid if Gamel is not going to be playing everyday. There is no question in my mind that he will be the everyday 3rd baseman next year and hopefully for many years into the future.

I can guaranty that Melvin won't "accidentally" let Gamel get 86 days in the major unless he is the starting 3rd baseman. These guys do this for a living.

Obviously, they really wanted Gamel up for an extra bat with the DH during interleague play, and then see how he responds. I think they really want him playing, especially with Hall's bat disappearing. However, this McGeehee thing has come out of nowhere, but either McGeehee (.325) or Counsell (.297) is going to come back to earth soon. At that point, I think Gamel plays 3rd more often than not and Counsell and McGeehee share 2nd and spell JJ every so often.

If not, down goes Gamel.
