2010 looks good for the Football Badgers

Coming off of a dominant bowl win over 14th ranked Miami - which easily could have been a blowout - Badgers fans have to be looking forward to 2010.

First off, the bowl win over a speedy, Top 15, nationally-branded program like Miami has some benefits of its own. At 10-3 with that good win and with many, many returning starters, we can expect a couple of things that make 2010 exciting:
(1) The Badgers' preseason poll-position will be Top 15, putting them in an inside lane for the BCS.

(2) John Clay will be media-hyped for the Heisman from day one.

Let's look at what Bucky brings to the table for 2010. It's encouraging.

Offense: This was a good offensive unit, and all starters come back with the exception of TE Graham and blocking TE Turner. Good players, but I think Kendricks gave a good "Garrett who?" performance last night, both receiving and blocking. This looks like fun:

QB: Tolzien, Phillips, Budmayr, plus promising frosh
RB: A guy named Clay, Ball, Brown, Smith, aka fucking loaded
TE: Kendricks rocks, Byrne / Korslin can fill the anonymous blocking role of Turner, or maybe we'll see less double TEs and see a fullback like Ewing spend some time blocking
WR: Toon, Appleton, Anderson, Gilreath and Jefferson
OL: All five starters return, plus 4 other guys who started at least 1 game.

With more experience and growth for this unit, they will be bad-ass, no doubt in my mind.

Defense: A little more to be lost here. Schofield is a major loss at DE, but we have some promising guys to step in, and the emergence of Watt is very encouraging. DT is an issue, we are losing bodies but no stars, and there is some depth to be sure - more than in recent years. McFadden goes, but I like our young LBs. We lose a small balding guy at safety, but I like the future there as well. Here 'tis:

DT: Butrym returns with size and experience, look out for big-body youngsters like Westphal, Kohout, Muldoon, Hein, scout-team superstar Ethan Hemer, and my favorite, 2010 recruit Beau Allen. (Watt will play wherever needed most, DE or DT.)
DE: Watt is a beast, Nzegwu, Gilbert, Kelly all show promise
LB: Young talent returns, look for Mike Taylor to return to join St. Jean and Borland.
FS: Aaron Henry made the move from CB, and he has the tools to be better than Maragos
SS: Starter Valai and backup Claxton return
CB: Top 4 corners return, Smith, Brinkley, Fenelus, Cromartie

Even the questions appear to have some good answers. Looking good like chocolate pudd should.

The schedule is reasonable, with a pussy non-conference slate, roadies at MSU, Iowa, Michigan and Purdue, home games against OSU, Minny, Indiana and Nerdworstern. No PSU on the schedule. UW should be favored in all but 1, maybe 2, games and all of them are winnable. Yeah, I guess I'll renew my season tickets one more time.

I guess Bo's team looks pretty good as a time-passer for now, but the Brewers really better show me something or it will be a long summer waiting for this to start.

Movie Review: Avatar

I am sure most have you have heard what this movie is about, but I will give a quick synopsis. Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, is a ex-marine that was paralyzed in battle. He is given the opportunity to go to the planet Pandora to take part in the "Avatar" program. Pandora is very rich in valuable resources that are trying to be mined and taken back to Earth. However standing in the way of corporate greed is a race of native people know as the Na'vi. The "Avatar" program basically links the mind of a human into a body of a Na'vi. In exchange for the ability to walk again, Sully is sent in to get close to the Na'vi to negotiate the relocation of the indigenous people, so the valuable resources can be mined. To Sully's surprise, he is forced to pick sides, in a battle for Pandora.

That is about as quickly as I can wrap up the movie which plays out over nearly 3 hours. The story I would say is a downfall of this movie. It is interesting to say the least, and the idea, is behind comprehension even for the most vivid imaginations. However, this movie was completely predictable, and parts made me even laugh out loud as they just seemed so cheesy. I guess what can you expect when you take Titanic and morph it with Terminator. In all seriousness though the world created by director James Cameron is unreal. He basically creates a complete culture and mythology for this indigenous species. However the creativity doesn't stop with the people as the plants, and creatures of Pandora are just as spectacular.

Worthington, is pretty good in the lead role. He is a likable enough character. However I do feel some of the other performances fell pretty short. One problem I had was distinguishing the different Na'vi characters. To me they all looked alike, especially in the fight scenes, so it was hard to follow many characters from the tribe. The earthlings, in this case the aliens, were about as stereotypical as can be. The Marines that were hired to fight the Na'vi only want to do one thing and that is destroy. The scientists that were there to learn about the plants, and people, fit the tree hugging stereotype to tee. These are all minor flaws to the movie, but with all the time spent to create this amazing world, I wish they would have spent some time creating characters that you actually really cared about. Besides Worthington, there weren't many to find.

The visual effects of this movie are without question, the highlight. I am planning on going again, just to take in exactly what is going on in this vast world. I felt like I was on a great acid trip and I have never tried acid. The special effects are worth the price of admission alone. Cameron appears to be in a class of his own, for setting the bar in creative, visual, film making. He picks up right where he left off in some of his other classics. Much like Terminator or Alien, you cannot happen to believe that something like this is possible, for how life-like he made the entire environment. He has it down to every last detail. I will say that for all the flaws that the story had, I cannot wait for them to make another one, because I feel like there is still so much to see in Pandora. Wow, I feel gay saying that.

Another great part of this film is the action sequences. Futuristic action movies usually fall short, or get old fast. Unless of course we are talking about Total Recall. This movie's fight sequences were thrilling from start to finish. In the beginning of the movie there is a fight between Sully's Avatar and a native creature of Pandora, right from that point you realize you are watching something never seen before. That feeling carries right throughout the entire movie, culminating in a 20 minute, in air, action sequence, that easily is one of the most entertaining 20 minutes of film I have ever seen.
This film had a lot of hype and I will say that it lived up to a lot of it for me. Yes there were some problems with the story, and some plot holes I didn't like. It was almost childish at times. However if you are able to look past that and let this film take your imagination and run wild, you wont be disappointed. Like I said I am already planning on checking it out again, as I believe visually there is no equal to this movie. The characters for the most part are forgettable, but the world of Pandora, is something I want to see much more of.

Holiday Hangover

So for the past five days I have been jumping from family to family eatin and drinking as much possible. Today I have what simply feels like a food induced hangover. I didnt drink at all yesterday, but my stomach is in a knot, I cannot focus, my head is pounding, and I have spent as much time on the toilet as I have actually getting any work done.

It was a great few days off. Really nice visiting with family, and I got some great gifts. However I am damn glad all of this eating and drinking is done with for a few days. I just feel myself digging an early grave.

Did anyone get any special xmas gifts? Eat anything amazing they would share? Do anything stupid at xmas?

I have one story to share. My father in law is basically retired, he works for himself so he can go back to work whenever, but he is not working now. Anyways he had some xmas greenery for us to endulge in and it made our xmas gift exchange and party truly a great time. After spending seemingly all day downstairs having fun with the greenery and Jameson it was time for this stupid gift exchange in which you can pick, trade, steal. I picked like 8th or something and stole these lotto tickets from one of Jenny's cousins. He is about 23 and he bought the lotto tickets. He ended up having to pick again, and this time he grabbed a bird feeder. Lucky him. Anyways I had a lot of fun the rest of the gift opening laughing at the fact he got to spend his xmas hanging up a ridiculous bird feeder. I heard at least 5 people say oh that is a really nice gift, yet nobody would steal it from him. I ended up having my lotto tickets stolen as well and ended up with the Public Enemies DVD, which was just alright, but at least I didnt end up with that fucking bird feeder.

In much more serious news, I finally finished basement over the weekend. Well as far as I am going to before my NYE party. So there is still no carpet, but it is cleaned, painted, and decorated. What a long and shitty process it has been. It has seemingly been years since I have last had that space, but I am sure glad it is done. Finishing the basement and the holidays have pretty much bankrupted me, but it is all done and I got some money for the holidays that should help me pay for carpet.

As I mentioned briefly above, I will be having a NYE party at my place. I dont know how many people to expect, but I would say it could be anywhere from 15-25 people. If you read this you are more than welcome to stop in. I am supplying the beer, and mixers, I am asking people to bring a bottle to pass. I will also most likely have some appetizers. The plan is to party hard and either go to the bars, or just blow the roof off of my place. Either way it should be a good time.

Nonpoint In-Store Madison, WI

Here is that in-store performance I was talking about the other week. Not my video, this angle was way better than mine so I am posting this. That is me playing the drums in the back...not really, just saying it could be.

A Look Into The Crew's Offseason

I apologize for political rant the last few days, I need to learn you cannot win an argument with a lawyer. Anyways the Brewers have had a pretty busy off-season so far and I wanted to touch on that before the Holidays.

I already talked about the decision to bring in Greg Zaun and let Kendall walk. Kendall got a 2 year deal with the Royals, and well folks that is why they are the Royals. I am sure Zack Greinke will love his game calling skills. The next wave of moves was to not tender a contract to Braden Looper, Mike Cameron, and Felipe Lopez. Many disagree with not offering Lopez a contract. I personally feel like Lopez would have accepted a deal for around 5 million for one year. But I am glad the Brewers didnt offer. For one the argument that says we could have traded him after we signed him, is a dream argument. The market is flooded with decent second baseman and nobody is knocking down the doors to sign these guys. My guess is he gets 2 year deal worth about 7.5 mil with incentives. So nobody would have likely given us anything for him and we can not afford having a 5 million dollar backup second baseman. By having the five mil in flexibilty Melvin was able to go after a couple of his big name targets. Non tendering Looper was a no brainer. He won 14 games last year, but he was in the bottom 3rd of pitchers in both leagues. He was just one of those pitchers that benefitted from a lot of offense when he was on the mound. You can never count on that type of luck. He was decent #4 for us last year, but to compete for the playoffs we needed to upgrade.

Our first move did just that. We signed Randy Wolf to an above market 3 year 29.5 million dollar deal. It is becoming increasingly obvious that the Brewers have to over pay to get guys to come to Milwaukee. Will Wolf be a really good pitcher in three years? Probably not, but he does fill a big hole behind Gallardo in our rotation. He is a durable pitcher that you can almost pencil in for 200 innings of 3.8 era baseball. In todays game that is as good as you can ask for from a starting pitcher. He is not going to carry a team like CC can and put zeroes on the board for 8 innings. However he will make 27-30 starts and the Brewers should have a good chance to win every time he steps out there. They needed to sign a free agent starting pitcher and they got the 2nd best starter on the market. It is hard not to like this move, especially when Washborn and D. Davis were the back up plans. I still feel like we dont have a true ace, but we arent likely going to be finding one, now that Cliff Lee and Halladay got traded. So we are going to have to go with what we have, and hope our offense can rake. The next move Doug Melvin and co made was to bring in RP Latroy Hawkins. He is going to slot into the 7th or 8th inning role with Coffey. Many feel like they overpaid for his services as well, but he is a career under 4.00 bullpen arm. I feel like he will fit in nicely to our pen, and suddenly our week bullpen is looking to be at least average. It looks as if we will open with Mitch Stetter, Coffey, Hoffman, Hawkins, Claudio Vargas (who the just resigned), Chuck Lofgren (rule 5 pickup), and Jeff Suppan as the swing man. It isnt a dominate strike you out bullpen, but all of these guys besides Hoffman can pitch more than one inning, so it will leave Macha with plenty of options. There are also a couple sleepers to look out for. Zach Braddock one of our best pitching prospects looks to be moving to the bullpen so he can help out sooner rather than later. He is a lefty strike out artist, who dominated his recent stint in the AFL. We also still have John Axford who looked pretty good in a few major league innings at the end of last year. Expect these guys to open in AAA but be up when needed. As for the starting rotation it is looking like we will have Gallardo, Wolf, Parra, Bush, and Suppan or possible another starter aquired by trade. The rotation still has some holes, and really looks dependent on if Bush and Parra have bounce back years. That is a lot of ifs, hopefully they can trade for another average pitcher, so at least we have some depth when inevitable someone goes down.

Not many changes in the line-up with only the addition of Carlos Gomez in center. We should have a lot more speed and athleticism this year. Here is a look at my projected lineup.

Weeks -2nd

Escobar- SS

Braun- LF

Fielder- 1st

Hart (Gamel)-RF

McGhehee- 3rd

Zaun- C

Gomez- CF

The bench then looks like Counsell, Gamel, Gerut or Cattalonatto, and either Adam Heether or Hernan Iberrean.

There obviously could be some smaller moves, but for the most part I see the Brewers pretty set heading into next year. With the Cardinals and Cubs looking to be having pretty mediocre off seasons, I see us right up there competing for the Central and or a wildcard birth. Another SP in a trade of Hart would be helpful.

Pretty Sweet Little Saturday

Last saturday I had the pleasure of seeing one of my favorite hard rock bands at the Barrymore. It was a cluster fuck trying to get everything together but I am glad it worked out even though it was very last minute. It all goes something like this...
I was randomly talking to my buddy Tubbs about big bands playing at Best Buy west. He is the GM there and he was all "...OH YEAH DUDE ALL THE TIME!" In true Tubbs fashion. He mentions that Nonpoint will be playing on the 12th and doing an in-store performance. So I am all "...can you get me tickets" in true C-Train fashion. He came through huge, he hooked up 2 tickets on the WJJO guest list. At this point I am totes stoked! Now, I just have to find someone to go with, I figured this would be the least of my worries. Turns out nobody likes great bands and free tickets. I couldnt find anyone to go with. Friday night I get a call from a buddy of mine. He tells me he has tickets and that I should come with him, (BOMB) I call his brother, he isnt doing anything and would love to go to a free concert (its about time, christ). Things are starting to look up. Saturday morning I decide to head over to the in-store performance. What a cluster the west side of Madison is on saturday afternoon. Took me 20 minutes just get off the exit to Best Buy. It was well worth it. Nonpoint played 3 songs off of their new album "Cut the Cord, Ep" (which by the way was recorded in Racine, $4.95 on iTunes. Pick it up mahfuckas). They killed it, really soulfull and intimate. Love these guys even more. I have video, but my angle wasn't the greatest, and I havent gotten it on Youtube yet, working on it. Anyway, after the performance, I am talking with the sales rep from JJO (who Tubbs got the tix from). He is pretty tight with Tubbs so he's all "...so you want to meet Nonpoint before the show?". Me- "um, FUCK YEAH", Him- types on iPhone, ok meet this dude by the bar at 8:45pm, he will take you back." Me- rubs his weiner, makes him a sandwhich, asks if he needs a nap.
At this point I am not really sure what a backstage meet and great is going to be like. I mean it could get awkward in a hurry. But fuck it, I am willing to risk it for a chance to meet one of my favorite bands. So we go back stage and its awesome, just a few of us and Nonpoint. Nonpoint is cool as shit, real chill and very gracious to us. They are willing to sign anything, take pix whatever. Just shooting the shit with us. AWESOME! There was another couple that came with us. They drove all the way from Indiana to come to this show and meet Nonpoint. Pretty crazy, this dude made a metal laser cut plaque with the Nonpoint logo on it. This guy was in tears the whole time as he is explaining his love to Nonpoint. Nonpoint loved it! The plaque was pretty cool and his story was touching, but the water works was a little much. I mean I love these guys too, but come on bro, your a grown ass man, get it together. Anyway we werent there too long, they had to prepare for the show. They gave us autographed posters, shook hands and we were out. All in all super tight, something I will never forget.
Nonpoint came out and totally fucking ripped it. I have never seen them live except for a live performance dvd (No shit, not even close to live, I watched one of their concerts on my couch. Hope you feel better about yourself). If you ever have the chance to see these guys live do it. They are as intense, probably more than anyone I have ever seen (except for Slipknot, they are down right maniacs). They put on a tremendous show, for a 12-15 song show it seemed like it was over in an instant. They will be coming to Band Camp this year again and I will be in attendance for the first time. I will not miss these guys again when they come back to Madisconsin! Unreal...
p.s. I was talking to Elias (lead singer) about there upcoming studio album. It will drop this April and is being executivly produced by Chad Gray and Greg Tribbett from fucking Mudvayne! Its going to be glorious.

Suck On This Al Gore

Please dont get me wrong when I post articles and links like this. I do believe that our environment needs to be regulated, that dangerous toxic gas' can be extremely dangerous to our health as well as the health of the Earth we live in. However I just do not know if there is any correlation to this so called global warming effect and dangerous emissions such as CO2. Since there is no real proof of to show me that global warming is real, it sickens me that it can be so high on the agenda of politicians, when real problems like the economy, unemployment, war, and a huge budget deficit loom. Anyways I doubt a US paper could ever get away with an article like this.

Again, I am not saying we do not need to protect the environment and regulate against companies the emit these types of toxins into the atmosphere. However before I go to movies about the end of the world that is intended to boost your political career, I would like to see some more accurate proof.

C-Train Fist Pump

Hello everyone, the weather sucks balls today. I am at work, my Fiance is at home with no power and the cable is out. Sucks to be her. Anyway, To go along with Big Tasties post about the Jersey Shore, I came across something awesome. I know there has been tons of name generators on the web. But this one is by far the best. It comes from a website I have never heard of before UnlikelyWords.com. And I am in love...type your name in there and it gives you your very own Jersey Shore nickname. So now when you head to South Beach for a little getaway, you can fit right in with all the homos that run around over there. Just make sure your arm pits are supper sweaty and your fist pumpin so hard you tear a rotator cuff.
C-TRAIN OUT (Yes I will be going as C-Train from now on, unless I randomley generate a sweeter one)
Post your new nickname in the comments section, so the next time I see one of you we can get all douch baggy

Jersey Shore

I meant to post about how awesome Steven Seagal's new show, Lawman, is on Friday. It was everything I expected. Seagal's mastery of martial arts and weapon training has made him the worlds most dangerous cop, and I cannot wait for him to disarm a perp, and break a few bones in his face.

In a suprise I was able to catch some of the premier of MTV's new show Jersey Shore, and I have to admit it is better than Lawman. It is quite possible a collection of the worst human beings on the planet. What really suprised me is the Guidettes? Who are probably twice as superficial as the guido's, and that is saying something. Watching this show is kind of like watching someone scratch there fingers across a chalk board, it can be extremely difficult at times, but like an episode of Jerry Springer, I just kept on turning back. If you thought Sopranos gave Italian Americans a bad name, than you probably wont want to see this, but if you love watching douche bags glorified on National TV like I do, than you wont want to miss this show. Here is a link to 8 clips from the season premier.

Meet The Newest Brewer

This is a big off-season for the Crew, coming off a season in which they didnt live up to expectations, they will need to add some pieces if they want to get back to being a 90 win club. With Prince Fielders days in Milwaukee possible numbered, the window for winning a world series may be very small. I believe they got off to a good start signing Gregg Zaun. He is probably someone the casual fan has never heard of but after checking out his website I am positive he will be a fan favorite. LINK This is probably the best MLB player website out there. Zaun will be much better than Jason Kendall for nearly half the price. Just the fact that I dont have to watch Kendall hit into 30 double plays a year, while struggling to get on base at a .300 clip, will make this deal worth it. Brewer fans get ready for the Zaunby nation!

Merry Xmas from the Woods

Hat tip to A-Zirbs for sending this photo.

I didnt really want to touch on the subject because every news outlet already has, and quite frankly I dont see how a rich person cheating on his wife qualifies as news. What I do find interesting is why this blond bombshell is still with Tiger, she could make a few hundred million just by walking away. She would probably be the richest person in all of Norway.

Set Your DVR

Tommorow night is the debut of the new show, Steven Seagal Lawman, on A&E. Apparently Seagal has been a volunteer police officer for the past 20 years, and they decided to give him a show. Below is a little preview, and I have to say I will be checking in. Seagal is a legend to me, he has broken more bones than skateboards, and you get him in front of a camera and you have pure comedic gold. What is really sad is this guys complex disorder in which he actually believes he is a true badass that can fight, sing, act, police, and help you with your spirituality, when in reality he is no more than chubby, Jean Claude Van Damme. That probably is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to Steven. Anyways I think this show is going to be amazing.

CRACK HEADS BE ACTIN ALL CATTY

LMF - The Dan Band

The Dan Band, led by the charismatic Dan Finnerty, is a lounge act that has dominated the LA scene with its performances of “songs by strong women,” with gratuitious profanity tossed in the mix. Nationally, they are best known for their appearance as the wedding entertainment in the film Old School, performing “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” and more recently as the wedding band once again in the hit comedy The Hangover, performing "Candy Shop." However, in their hometown of LA, they are among the hottest tickets in town, and their shows are often attended by Hollywood stars and the beautiful people. They keep popping up in movies because directors, actors, and producers are attending their shows and love them. In fact, The Dan Band ended up with an amazingly well-produced concert special on Bravo! Network after Steven Spielberg attended the LA lounge show with friends. Spielberg was the executive producer of the special – how many bands can say that?

Legend has it that it all started when Dan Finnerty was challenged by friends to perform Helen Reddy's pathetic, psuedo-feminist anthem, "I Am Woman (Hear Me Roar)" at a karaoke bar. The crowd loved it so much that he thought there might be a successul act in this schtick.

I took advantage of the unique opportunity to see them perform live in Milwaukee at the basement bar of the Rave / Eagles Club venue. I believe that was in April of 2007. The band is tight, the music sounds great, Finnerty can sing, the absurd stage show is wildly entertaining and the funny but high-energy song choices make it like a boozy dance party. Not everybody in the house loves the songs, but everybody knows them, and Finnerty's raw enthusiasm makes you want to sing along - even if your friends see you doing it. My wife and I went to the show with another couple, celebrating my birthday and our friend Kathy’s birthday. We got hammered and had an absolute blast dancing to these somewhat stupid female pop songs, and I can see why it is such a major hit in LA. It’s just plain fun, and enjoying it openly means just letting yourself go a bit, which is refreshing.

If you want to check them out, hit the road. They will be doing the JACK FM Holiday Show in Chicago on Dec. 10, and what’s better than New Year’s Eve at Times Square (they will be doing two shows.) I will try to give an LMF heads up if I see that they are coming back to this area - after I've secured my tickets, of course.

I will leave you with the encore of their Bravo! special, featuring "Theme From Ice Castles," "You Oughta Know," and "Que Sera, Sera." Very entertaining shit.

A Little Something For The Ladies

Last week on Its Always Sunny, the crew was trying to capitalize on merchadise that could be sold at the bar. One of the funnier ideas was Mack's dick towel. Well his dream has come true. NSFW

DWI Readers, I Need Your Help

So tomorrow I will be pouring the cement in my basement to complete the drainage system my father and I installed last spring. It has been over a year since I have had my basement sanctuary at my disposal and it has been sorely missed. Although I only lived down there for a year and a half a lot of memories were racked up at the sports bar, and although i would never call my bed a work bench, I did put in a little. Those days seem like such distant memories but all that could be changing...

I am sure most of you are familiar with the term "Man Cave". A place in the home in which guys can have complete refuge from there lives and the outside world. A place where you can drink a beer with friends, host a fantasy football draft, spill queso dip on your robe, or clean your pistol without anyone complaining. It is a dream of all men to have a spot like this. When i lived with a bunch of guys, the whole fucking house was a man cave, I mean we did what the fuck we wanted, wherever and whenever we wanted. It was great. As you know however I now have a special lady friend that lives with me, and we also have our lovely daughter that has more shit than I do, and no place to put it. I mean it was great with Jenny moving in, my place was clean, smelled good, and the it was decorated. However it is hard to look at decorations like "live" "laugh" "smile" on the wall. It is almost disgusting to me the amount of pillows and nick nacks that have a home in every free space of the living room. Oh and the family pictures, my god, is there a lot of family pictures. In any regard, it is nice is small doses, but a man cannot feel comfortable staring at a picture of himself with the family, when it is constant reminder of that awful day. Trying to hold that fake smile, while his itchy sweater is making him want to strangle his extremely homosexual photographer, I am telling you it will drive me to insanity. Enough is enough, it is time for me to reclaim some of the space in the place I have worked so hard on, and readers I need your help.

I found a couple of good blog posts of things every man cave needs. You can read that hear I am not putting a fucking bar made out of an air plane engine, or stripper pole, or condom dispenser in my basement. So you can save your breath on those genius ideas. Also please remember that the entire space is going to be broken into two spaces, one for me, and a play room for my daughter, so the life size card board cut out of Tabitha Stevens deep throating a 13" kielbasa probably wont work. I need this to be a place where a child could stumble in and not be scarred for the rest of her life. Not to say that any woman, including my daughter, will be let in the place, but there is a very good chance at some point I am going to need a refill, or need the carpet vacuumed so I am being realistic. So please, all readers, if you care about my well being, and my future utility, please give me your best ideas for the man cave. I am counting on you.

Hat tip to With Leather. This is hilarious. Pretty great illustration to accompany Doc telling the tale of the no hitter he threw in 1970 while high on LSD

Humpday: Rachel Bilson

Say what you want to say about how shitty a show the OC was, but at least it gave us this beauty. I saw some pics of her on Holy Taco and I forgot how hot she was. Hat tip to them for reminding me.

The Recession Has No Limits

The recession is effecting everyone, and the music industry is no different. Teenage girls are no longer buying boy band cds, so the boy bands are reaching out to a different market. (I found this over at Film Drunk).

Timmay's Top Ten of the 2000's

So much for unanimity – my top ten shares only 2 titles with Big Tasty’s list. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

10. Stranger than Fiction (2006)
Harold Crick (Will Ferrell), a lifeless, lonely, and obsessive-compulsive IRS auditor's pathetic, boring life changes when he begins to hear a woman’s voice that seems to be narrating his every move and providing background details and foreshadowing, as if Harold were a character in a novel. I have never seen a film take the cliché of the human life as a storybook and lay it out in a truly refreshing fashion. Harold desperately seeks answers about his story. Is it a comedy? Is it a tragedy? Will Ferrell’s remarkable and unexpected performance earned a Golden Globe nomination. Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson all give first rate performances in this truly original film.

9. The Bourne Identity (2002)
I loved action thrillers as a kid, but as I matured I found virtually all of them to be so mindlessly implausible and lacking any compelling story that my disbelief could not be suspended enough to enjoy them. Along came the film adaptations of Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne novels. Intelligent, emotional and suspenseful stories that challenge the intellect and send the viewer’s mind spinning with conspiracy theories. Yes, the film delivers on explosive, kinetic action sequences, but each of them serves to advance the story in necessary, intelligent ways with emotional payoffs that drive the audience through the story, rather than jerk us off. I credit the Bourne trilogy with saving the action film genre. As with many things, the first time is the most memorable, so I'm giving the first chapter the nod.

8. Walk the Line (2006)
Disclaimer: I am a Cash fan, but you don’t have to be to enjoy this biographical film. This film tells the compelling story of Johnny Cash’s young life, from the poor son of an Arkansas cotton farmer to a megastar of country music, concluding with his legendary concert at Folsom Prison. Along the way, we find that Johnny’s life, failures, outlook and art are influenced heavily by the violent, childhood death of his brother and his bitter relationship with his disapproving father. The Man in Black is a classic American “hero,” deeply flawed and troubled but possessing unyielding stubbornness for what he believes in. The performances by Joaquin Phoenix (Cash) and Reese Witherspoon (June Carter), including all of the singing, are absolutely stunning. Masterpiece work.

7. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
More often than not, I do not enjoy science fiction films, primarily because the geekery is often held up in place of an actual story worth telling. This film is a notable exception combining 2004’s Best Original Screenplay with great performances from a great cast, including Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Tom Wilkinson, Kiersten Dunst, and Mark Ruffalo. It is based upon an imaginary technology that can selective delete memories from the human brain. However, is erasing the physical / electronic storage of the memory of love won and lost enough to erase the experience from the depths of your soul?

6. Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
The heartbreaking and triumphant story of Jamal, an orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is on the verge of winning big on the Indian version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” When Jamal breezes through to the final round, the corrupt producer and police assume fraud, and they torture and interrogate Jamal. As Jamal explains how he answered each question, the story of his impoverished, orphaned childhood comes to life, revealing the experiences that resulted in his knowledge. The flashbacks add up to an innovative story-telling vehicle, a nice variation from the classic, linear, A to B to C plotline. The story is nothing short of shattering and uplifting, but what makes this film truly special are the incredible performances by Indian actors – unknown in the U.S. and mostly unknown anywhere – from amazing work by young children to the excellent performances of the lead actors.

5. Atonement (2007)
The title gives the theme. 13 year-old Briony misunderstands as violence the sexuality and passion she observes between her older sister Cecilia (Keira Knightley) and her suitor, Robbie (James McAvoy). Later, when Briony witnesses the rape of her cousin Lola, she mistakenly identifies Robbie as the attacker. Due to Briony’s false witness, Robbie is imprisoned. In exchange for release, Robbie enlists to fight in WWII for his freedom so he may return to Cecilia. In her old age, Briony publishes a novel telling tells her story of the torment of her mistake, how she realized the mistake and did all she could to make it right, thereby reuniting Robbie and Cecilia. However, there are many forms of atonement, some of which exist only in our minds. This is an incredibly powerful and gut-wrenching story adapted from the novel of Ian McEwan.

4. The Departed (2006)
What could I write about this film that hasn’t been written? I tend not to agree with the hype machine, and this isn't the best work of Scorcese, Nicholson, Sheen, Wahlberg, or DiCaprio, but even their half-assed is good enough to top the charts.

3. Oh, Brother Where Art Thou? (2000)
This sincerely goofy yet epic film from the Coen brothers is a true masterpiece of American film. We follow Everett (George Clooney) and his two accomplices on a long, eventful journey from an escape on a prison chain gang to find hidden treasure – or not. The journey in many ways parallels the many trials of Odysseus’s long return home from the Trojan War in Homer’s epic classic, The Odyssey. Like Odysseus, Everett is confronted by the lure of singing Sirens, the Cyclops (represented by a one-eyed, bible-selling con-man played by John Goodman), and a band of singing Baptists representing Homer’s Lotus Eaters, en route to his wife Penny (Odysseuss’ Penelope). The story is a dust-bowl era epic, even if it is Coen goofy, and it features great performances by great actors (Clooney, Goodman, John Turturro, Tim Blake Nelson, Holly Hunter.)

2. Almost Famous (2000)
Cameron Crowe’s semi-autobiographical masterpiece about a precocious teen who weasels his way into writing for Rolling Stone magazine and heads out on the road with a up-and-coming ‘70s rock band on the verge of super-stardom. Young William (Patrick Fugit) leaves his bizarre and over-protective mother and heads out on a journey where he becomes acquainted with the people and the life that he idolizes, loses his virginity, makes friends, establishes himself as a writer, and falls in love for the first time. Along the way, he discovers, as all kids must, that not all that glitters is gold. Fugit plays the character with naïve enthusiasm coupled with high intelligence and personal genuineness, which makes for a fresh take on the coming-of-age story. Great cast performances by Kate Hudson, Frances McDormand, Billy Crudup, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jason Lee and Fairuza Balk fill out Cameron’s compelling story with life, depth and color. Many films try, but very few films can capture the wonder of youth meeting the disappointments of the real world, while still maintaining the theme that, despite hard lessons, life and love and art and dreams are all worthwhile.

1. Big Fish (2003)
Big Fish is a wild-eyed, Wizard-of-Oz type fantasy film from Tim Burton, starring Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, Jessica Lange and, one of my favorite actors, Billy Crudup. It is the story of Edward Bloom, a man who lives his life telling wild, imaginative and bizarre tall tales. His adult son, Will, has long been frustrated with his father, feeling that the story-telling prevents him from really knowing him. The film brilliantly brings to life- as only a Tim Burton can do – Edward’s fantastically wild stories of his childhood, hometown hero and war hero status and lovesick adventures to court his wife. The closing scenes of the film are as moving as any I’ve ever seen, as Will finally realizes that he has to accept his father on his own terms and that the tall tales really do reveal who his father is. Amazing performances by all, particularly the legendary Albert Finney, Crudup and McGregor, but it would be wrong to fail to offer a Danny Devito cameo / nudity alert.

LMF - Knuckel Drager

You've probably been wondering where you can go to see some guys in scary Halloween masks play surf rock-influenced heavy metal instrumental songs by a band that refers to it as dragracing music. I give you Madison's own Knuckel Drager.

I don't know exactly when these guys started. I know I was first introduced to them in about 1997 or 1998. They used to rock that back stage at the Orpheum (used to be the Stage Door theater) on a regular basis. Some friends took me along to my first Knuckel Drager show. There, I ran into an old acquaintance from high school - who happened to be a hell of a guitarist himself - and he loved these guys. He was explaining to me a lot of the details of what they were doing. In reality, all I could understand was that there were a shitload of guitarists on the stage and they could all really shred the surf-metal licks. Throw in the Halloween masks, and you've got a pretty intersting experience. The skill is obvious, but the depth and breadth of the sounds along with the high-energy, strange visual image of this band on stage make it worth paying the door. Check them out. Even if it's not your thing and you won't be bumping them from your iTouch, you will enjoy the show. It beats that stupid fucking reality tv. show you were going to watch about that dumb bitch with the douchebag boyfriend. You know which one I'm talking about - all of them.

They have as many as seven members at times, with four of them shredding on electric guitars. Typically, they have a drummer, a bass guitar, somebody on the keys, and then a short-bus full of guitarists. They played the High Noon last week, and you missed it, jackass. But, you're in luck. I see they are playing a show in the bar at Badger Bowl on Friday, Nov. 20. If you haven't been there, it's not a bad bar. I've been there to see bands play before.

Behold the surftastic, metallic, masquerading spectacle that is Knuckel Drager. Be sure to listen to the music. They are recockulously good at what they do. If you can't go on a 3-day whiskey and blow binge with this as your soundtrack, you sir cannot go on a 3-day whiskey and blow binge at all.

Tasty's Top 10 Movies of the Decade

I was requested by one of our loyal readers (I guess they do exist) to do a top 10 movie of the decade list. So in effort to keep our only reader happy I have decided to make his dreams come true. I have also asked fellow blogger Timmmay to give his top 10, hopefully he will post that tomorrow. Onto the list.

#10 Big Fish
When I first saw this movie, after about five minutes I was ready to walk out, I am not much of a fan of Tim Burton or Ewan McGregor, but I decided to give this movie a shot. I am glad I did. It is a feel good movie, about a fathers relationship with his son, told through a bunch of semi-made up stories that the father used to tell the son. The son, played by Billy Crudup, feels like he never got to know who his father really was, and vows to have to fix that relationship before his father passes. Great performances from the dad, Albert Finney, McGregor, and Crudup, make this a must watch film.

#9 Oldboy
I am sure only a handful of you have seen this Korean film. This movie takes a theme, revenge, seen thousands of times in movie and puts in incredible twist on it. This movie will have your head spinning. I didn't know much about Korean film until I heard about this movie, but I will say that is one of the most original and daring screenplays I have ever seen. If you like action and psychological thrillers, this is the movie for you.

#8 LOTR (The Fellowship of the Rings)
I was one of those people that didn't want to give Lord of the Rings a chance, I am certainly glad I did. Within the first half hour of the first film I was completely lost in the realm of hobbits, dwarfs, elves, and men. Call me a flame, if you want, but I can almost guarantee if you give this trilogy a chance, it will capture you as well.

#7 Sin City

I have never been a big fan of comic book movies, they are usually entertaining, but often the story lines are just to far fetched, and so are all the action sequences. Well this movie is just that, but it has a visual style that I have never seen before, and enough substance and good acting to keep me wanting more. Frank Miller deserves a lot of credit, for taking the comic book and graphic novel genre to new heights. I know many that will say 300 and Batman Begins, were the reason this genre reached new heights, but I will argue for Sin City every day of the week. Not to mention appearances by beauties Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Jaimie King, Britany Murphy, and Devon Aoki. I had to clean the pre-cum off my shorts after watching this film.

#6 Into the Wild
If you go back to read my original movie review you will notice that I had some problems with the movie. Mainly being the stupidity of the main character. However after seeing this movie now several times, I realize that my problems with the character is what made this such a good movie. You may not believe in what Alex Supertramp believes, in but you can make no mistake, that he stood for something. You throw in an absolutely wonderful soundtrack and you have a must own movie.

#5 No Country for Old Men
If you are a fan of Coen Bros movies, you will have to agree that this is different than any film they have ever made. I dark, complex storyline, is what first captured my attention, but what made me really admire this film, is the Coen Bros ability to tell a story, through a litany of complex characters. The performance of Javier Bardem as Anton Chigurh is as chilling as you will find.

#4 Kill Bill Volume I
I really enjoyed both of Tarrentino's Kill Bill movies and they both nearly made the list, however I have to put the first one a little bit ahead of the second. With all Tarentino movies, the genre is all to his own, and the style and visual effects of this film are amazing. You throw in the dialogues and action sequences that Tarentino is known for and you have a wonderful film.

#3 There Will Be Blood
You either love this film or hate it. I think that has a lot to do with the story in which there is no real climatic point, in fact you could almost say this movie starts at the climax and moves on from there. At a slow pace at best. But to me the real beauty in this film lies in a simple character. I man driven by greed, hate, and resentment. Daniel Day Lewis, is in my mind the best actor on the planet, and he proves it in this movie. Go ahead give it another watch, keep an open mind, and I think you will take much more out of this film.

#2 Departed
Leo, Wahlberg, Nicholson, and Matt Damon, directed by Martin Scorscese, not much more needs to be said. Though it isn't my favorite Scorscese film, it is my favorite of the decade. This story is a remake, but the story can only be done with wonderful characters in which you can actually believe. There are some scenes in this movie, that were the definition of real suspense. Wonderful film.

#1 City of God
This is one of those movies that when you finish watching, you don't know if you should feel happy or sad. This movie is about the life on the streets of Brazil, and how hard it is for an adolescence to keep his life straight, growing up in the tough streets of Brazil. The characters are real, and you cannot help but feel for each and every child that is portrayed, good and bad. This is one of my favorite foreign films of all time.

HEY SHOWTY

I had no idea they had movie theaters in Africa. I though it was just head baskets and AIDS, AHaaaay!
*crip walks back to the internet*

A heads up, compliments of LMF

For you Milwaukee kids, just wanted to make you aware of a great live music opportunity this Friday night. Personally, I'll be at the hockey game (UW vs. UM) in Madison, but I've seen this cat before and will again. If you want to see and hear something special, head over to the Bay View Brewhaus this Friday night for some good beer and some great music. One of the acts is a personal favorite, William Elliott Whitmore, but you can check out the other acts as well (Hoots and Hellmouth, John Savage.) Go ahead. Treat yourself. As you can see below, they loved him in Belgium.

Another great Halloween costume...

I Love Me a Shitty Fight Scene

Hat tip to C$$$ for sending this. It is one of those scenes where you just have to ask yourself were they even trying to make it real, or were they just like, "fuck it, looks cool to me"? Either way it works for me.

Take Control of Your Finances

If you know me, then you know I am terrible when it comes to money. I love pissing it away on gambling, booze, fine dining, fantasy sports, etc. Even worse I do not balance a check book, rarely look at my bank statements, and I do not really have much of anything for savings. With the birth of my daughter I knew this was going to be one of my biggest challenges if I was going to maintain the style of living I have grown accustom to. I realized that I need to insure my life to protect for my daughter, I needed to start planning for the future. Both in terms of mine (retirement, travel, house, marriage) and hers, (college, summer camp, piano lessons etc.)it certainly wasn't going to be easy.

I then stumbled upon a blog I had not frequented in a while and they had this great post about Automating your finances. See link below. Anyways the basic principle is you pay yourself before you do anything else, and with the money left over you are free to spend it any way you wish. If i want to blow a couple hundred playing cards, or drinking with the guys, or going to that really expensive restaurant, I can do it as long as I have paid myself first. Seriously it will be easier to follow me if you read the blog post. Anyways, I am still in the process of making this work for me, and I have a long ways to go. But I am now 3 months in to this switch and I already can see the differences. I actually am seeing a savings account grow, making sure I have everything else covered, and still able to do get crazy once in a while. In that time, i have finally started banking online (I know right) have all my bills directly paid from my checking account (though I am looking into some sort of rewards based credit card, to pay all my bills), I have set up two life insurance policies, one in which will build cash value, and I have also set up a Roth IRA that automatically takes from checking each month. This seems like a lot to do, but I have probably spent 3 hours total getting all of this automated, and now I maybe check my bank statements 2 to 3 times a month, but I am totally covered. No need to worry about the nasty letters for un paid bills, no need to worry about bouncing the occasional check, though I still cannot figure out how to cut checks online.

Anyways, I wanted to share this with you because I really feel, that one of the biggest problems with people my age, is the have no hold on there personal finances. I work at a company in which less than half of the employees take part in a 401K plan. I am starting to learn that creating wealth and long term financial stability, is as easy getting on top of your personal finances, and paying yourself before you go out to the bars, or buy a new pair of shoes. I sure as hell know I don't want to work until I die, and automating my finances I believe is the first step in ensuring that doesn't happen.

This costume was a little too good.

Got the dude maced in the face.

Halloween Costume for the Guys

Fellas if you have a few minutes on hand tonight and dont mind putting together your costume last minute. Here is a good idea.

LMF - Scott H. Biram

Something a little dark in honor of Halloween. This is a guy who played in Milwaukee in July, and I didn't go to the show. I should have taken that opportunity, because his tour stops look like a KKK rally schedule - rarely jumping north of the Mason-Dixon line. Surprisingly, he also stomped through Europe for about 25 shows. Europeans love anything that smacks of the old frontier, Wild West image of the unrestrained, American cowboy.

Scott H. Biram is a pretty indescribable mofo from Austin, TX. To me, he sounds like what would happen if a guy who raped and murdered your grandmother picked up a guitar and poured the anger and deliriousness in his heart into a performance. Except better than that.

He calls himself a "dirty ol' one-man band." He sits with an old 1959 Gibson steel string guitar, amplified with plenty of distortion and bass, cranking out sloppy, bluesy riffs that could be John Lee Hooker or Black Sabbath, and then growls and howls frightening shit into the mic. I'm pretty sure what he is playing qualifies as rock music, but it really has a lot of obvious influence from country and blues with a deep hillbilly backbone.

He has cranked out about a half-dozen albums over the past decade and just works really hard playing shows on the road. Looking at his website, he's played over 100 shows in the past 12 months from Texas, Florida, Tennessee, the Carolinas, all the way up through the Midwest, into Canada, and all the way to Ireland, Italy, Germany, France, England, Belgium, Slovenia and Croatia. Living the dream.

I like a lot of different genres of music and love seeing all kinds of live music - pretty much everything but modern country. When it comes to a live act, I don't need to walk out thinking that it's my favorite band, or the best music ever. I don't even really need to like the music to appreciate the show. Really, I just want to walk out of a show knowing that I really saw something. "That was something" - literally, that's good enough for me to be satisfied that I got my money's worth. Scott H. Biram delivers, that much is clear. If he comes back to the area, I'm going to make an effort. I'm also going to watch my back among his fans.

Check the performance of "Blood, Sweat and Murder" below. It seems to be a love song to his woman about how she makes him so mad, but he could never hurt her, so he just kills some other woman to satisfy the demon. Say what you will, but you have to admit at the least, "I don't know that was, but it was something."

Finally

I stumbled upon this video over at With Leather, and I just want to say it is great finding someone who loves drifting as much as I do. If you are unaware drifting has been a part of the Japanese culture for many, many, years. It is a tradition handed down from generation to generation. You would know that if you could speak japanese and understand what these clowns are actually saying. Since I am a fellow drifter I can say this, behold the perfect drift.

Babes Reading Lebowski

I dont know why I love this, but I have watched it three times already today.

LMF - Cork n' Bottle String Band

This is probably the band I've seen perform live the most times. These guys are an inspiration to anybody who ever dreamed of playing in a band. They took their name from the liquor store on East Johnson in Madison, where several of them worked. They practiced in the basement storage area of the liquor store. They really weren't musicians. That didn't slow them down. They taught themselves, they took lessons, they worked hard, and they just kept plugging away.

Eventually, they became a downtown favorite. Playing their updated style of bluegrass, which they called "Big New" grass, they performed every Wednesday night at Ken's Bar on S. Butler from 1996 to 2002. Ken's was a tiny little dive bar, but it was packed to the rafters on Wednesday nights.

My buddy Trike and I would get over there by 4:30 to get a place to sit. If you got there after five, you would be standing shoulder to shoulder with a massive blended crowd of hippy chicks, after-work business folks, blue collar joes, UW students and wannabe hipsters. I would speculate that in 1997 alone, I probably saw them perform at least 40 times. I remember they once put out "Tour t-shirts" that said on the back:

1997 Summer World Tour

June 25 - Ken's Bar - Madison, WI
July 2 - Ken's Bar - Madison, WI
July 9 - Ken's Bar - Madison, WI
July 16 - Ken's Bar - Madison, WI

(and so on, you get the idea)

Ken's Bar is gone, but the Cork n' Bottle lives on. I believe their weekly show is now at the UW Memorial Union, in the Rathskellar or on the Terrace, depending upon the season. They are Madison legends and they also tour around a bit, performing at bluegrass festivals, etc. Recently, they put out a DVD about their history, how they got started, the run at Ken's Bar, etc. Trike sent me a copy and I just sat back in awe watching it. A slice of life on plastic. Amazing. If you ever experienced the Cork n' Bottle Wednesday at Ken's, be sure to check it out. Here's the trailer.

They are a funny bunch of dudes who write clever little songs, they sing, play a couple banjos, guitars, the double bass, the violin, and a mandolin. Most of all, it is just really good music in the bluegrass tradition, and every year they get a little more skilled and a little better. You could watch them develop, you'd see the 2nd banjo player work through a fairly technical solo that you hadn't seen him do before, and you could see the whole band watching him and pulling for him, and then openly celebrating that he made it through. You also got the sense that the crowd was really pulling for these little weekly improvements, and celebrated them wildly. I just remember thinking how lucky it would be to be a part of something like that.

Think about it. Playing music with friends. Learning as you go, but still playing packed shows on Wednesday nights. Wednesday nights! Even a dad can get away with that, right?

Here is a video that is claimed to have captured the performance of the song "Big New" on the last night at Ken's Bar before it was closed and torn down.

You Need To See This

Tunnel of Sore Butts

You have to admire this guy. He justs wants to rape as many people as possible and he is not even ashamed about it. I could explain this article but I dont think I would do it enough justice. Direct your eyeballs to dipshit. I hope his artistic liscense is valid in prison where pah-lenty of mustached men will refer to his butt hole as "The Rape Tunnel"

Humpday: Helping the Ladies With There Halloween Costumes

Halloween is right around the corner, and although I do not think I am doing anything for a second straight year, it happens to be my favorite holiday. I love dressing up, usually flaunting my great body, and getting completely annihilated. The biggest reason I like Halloween however, is because it is the only day ladies, get an excuse to dress as slutty as possible. Everyday should be Halloween. Here is a link to some of that slutiness.

Absolute Sick Throw Down

Ride or Die Bitches!

Apparently my cousin, good friend, and co-author of this blog, C$$$, has been taking some time away from his day job to get some extreme racing in. I have to say, he looks like a natural on that lawn mower, or should I say a regular Tim Taylor (insert Al's mom joke hear ughh, ugghhhh, ugghhhghghghghgh) God that was gay. Anyways this is some artwork C$$ was working on and if you ask him I am sure he will tell you all about this fucking sweet ride.

LMF - John Fogerty

This week, LMF gives a tip o' the cap to another act that I will be fortunate enough to see perform in November. John Fogerty is a living legend of American rock. Perhaps most famous for his work as the voice and primary creative force - by his own self-centered demand - of Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski's beloved Creedence Clearwater Revival. Forty years after Creedence began, Fogerty is still making music and still touring. I wouldn't classify myself as a huge Creedence or Fogerty fan, but I just didn't think it made a lot of sense to pass on the opportunity to see this guy once before he quits, especially in a smaller venue at The Riverside in Milwaukee. I'll be in the second row center of the balcony, which is only about 35 feet from the stage in The Riverside. I am really jacked about it.

Fogerty is a California native who sort of created a false creative history for himself as a Southern, backwoods bayou boy, showing that influence in songs like "Born on the Bayou" - which was later bastardized as the douchebag ad hoc theme song for Brett Favre. Creedence went through phases of bluesy rock, such as "Susie Q" and "Run Through the Jungle," to folksier politically charged strummers like "Who'll Stop The Rain?," to the furious statement rock of "Fortunate Son," perhaps their finest, most relevant moment. Then again, don't forget about Andre Rison's theme song, "Bad Moon Rising." When you look at the work as a whole, you just have to say, "Holy Shit, this dude has really made a busload of music known by entire generations of Americans."

Fogerty went on to some individual success in the 1980s as solo artist, scoring some moderate hits with "Centerfield," which is often used in MLB broadcasts, the country crossover hit "Rock N' Roll Girls,", and, my personal favorite, "Old Man Down the Road," which is featured below. (Make sure you watch it at least through the guitar solo and watch that dude rock out. He's 64 years old, for the love of God!)

Fogerty, by all accounts, is a bit of a pompous asshole as an artist. He refused to sing on songs that were written by his bandmates. He refused to play with the original Creedence members when the group was inducted in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. So, he's not really a guy that I celebrate as a hero of mine, but he has been a major contributor to a lot of music that is worthwhile, and his span of more than 40 years shows he has a lot of staying power and love for the game. If nothing else, his distinctive voice is something that is iconic - a wild, insane sounding howl that personifies the rockabilly / cajun country rock sound. Whatever he is, he's a legend and, as the clip from last year below shows, he can still bring it . I'm really looking forward to the show.

The Coastie Song

A little something that my UW / Madison peeps should enjoy. A little update on the long-standing Coastie vs. Sconnie cold war. I'll never forget the biggest barfight I ever saw started in line at Monday's when a Coastie dude tried to cut at the front of the line and a big Sconnie meathead shouted, "Hey, North Face, what the fuck do you think you're doing? Get your bitch ass to the back of the line." Coastie went right in. Sconnie and his boys went in after him. A real beauty.

Well done to the boys on this track. Funniest part: "Why the fuck are they calling me a Coastie? I'm from Chicago!"

Amazing Shot

I saw this last night on ESPN and thought it was worth a post. This shot is freaking amazing.
