DVD Rental Day

Every Tuesday i am going to give a list of 3 movies you should go out and rent. Myself I think I am going to rent Flags of Our Fathers tonight but I have not seen that so i cannot give a little review. So here goes it I will try and mix it up so there is something for everyone.

The Cooler- This is a really good film about Bernie (William H. Macy) who works at a casino and his job is to give players bad luck. The casino manager (Alec Baldwin) is from the older Las Vegas and he still believes in "coolers". Bernie's bad luck runs out when he meets this seemingly perfect girl. This movie has some great performances from Macy, Baldwin, and Maria Bello. It is not a fancy box office movie but it does have a quality story and great performances to back it up.

Requiem for a Dream- This is a drug exploitation film that is very well done. It chronicles the stories of different drug users have and the spiraling journey downward that drugs can often influence. Director Darren Aronofsky is one of my favorites and this movie will make it hard for you to turn your head. Jared Leto, Marlan Wayans, and Jennifer Connely all deliver strong performances. Aronofsky films this is in a way that you really feel like you are going through the same experience as the users in the film and you feel this all the way to the bottom.

Hoop Dreams- This is a documentary about two Chicago area basketball players who get accepted in the same private high school that the legendary Isiah Thomas attended. It follows them from 8th grade into college. This is the best documentary I have ever seen and I recommend it to anyone. Guys and girls you will both like this film.
