20 Worst, Most Painful, Dunks of All-Time

A great compilation of videos. A little known fact is that I could have been in one of these videos when I tried to throw one down my Freshman year. Breaking your wrist on the last day of school really blows. The drugs they gave me however didn't suck. They couldn't take me to surgery because my father took me to Taco Bell for lunch before taking me to hospital. So they set my displaced fracture under local anesthetic, and boy was I loopy.

Painful Dunks

Browne, I can totally feel your pain with messing yourself up right at the beginning of a summer by attempting to throw down a sick dunk. So I thought I would share my story as well, here goes:

It was a bright sun shiny Saturday this past May and I was watching a v-ball tourney that the GF was in at KB II...sucking beers, meeting some good people and having a fine afternoon. There was a kid (say 10 years old) shooting hoops on a sweet adjustable glass backboard and it was set to about 8-8.5 feet. So I thought I'd be a good guy and go shoot around with him.

After letting him beat me in a game of horse I thought I'd show him what he might want to start striving for and started pulling out some sick dunks. In the back of my mind I was wondering if this was a good idea after having a few pitchers in me...well it wasn't.

I was gonna top off the dunk session with a good ol' throw it in the air, catch in on the bounce, olly-oop to myself. Well the bounce was less than ideal and it ended up on the other side of the hoop from which I was coming in on. Initially I wasn't gonna go after it but thought hell I'll catch it and reverse it. Bad idea! When I came down my torso was already spinning to reverse it but my feet were still facing forward. That's when I heard SNAP, CRACKLE, POP. The first Pop...torn ACL/sprained MCL. Hopped immediately to get off it and couldn't avoid coming down on it again and heard the second Pop...torn Maniscus in two places.

So that's that. Two and a half months later: I've had ACL reconstructing knee surgery, been through 6 weeks pre-op and 5 weeks post-op physical therapy, walking like a retard, and looking at another 6 months before I can do any rigorous activity.

What a summer!

Well Adam thanks for sharing that painful memory. I too have not given up the glory of throwing down sick jams on an adjustable hoop. For some us it is all we have left in the athletic stratosphere. Anyways hope you have a full recovery so we can get you back on the court. Friday night I am going to be coming down to Milwaukee for some craziness. We should get together and tell stories about intramural basketball games in which you were dropping 3's in some girls eye in the championship game. Wait I think you may have hit the side of the backboard. Who can remember those petty details when we took the ship from those ass clowns. What I do remember for sure is they only had large t-shirt so I didnt even get one! Fuck heads. Let me know about friday.

Yeah intramurals...good times but should have taken it as a sign to hang em up when chicks stopped guarding me, fucking bitch was in my head. I'll be around Friday, my sister is gonna be in town so I'm gonna catch dinner and drinks with her but not sure what's up after that. We should for sure meet up for a few cocktails. Any plans yet?
